Meet Kami Sid, one of Pakistan’s most vocal trans rights activists and the country’s first trans model. This year, in particular, there has been a huge number of reported incidents of violence against Pakistan’s trans community.  Over 45 transgender Pakistanis have been killed since 2015 in the country’s northern province, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, alone.

Between November 14 – 20, individuals and organizations around the country will participate in Transgender Awareness Week to help raise the visibility of transgender and gender non-conforming people, and address the issues the community faces. The final day of Transgender Awareness Week is Transgender Day of Remembrance, an annual observance on November 20 that honors the memory of those whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence.

STD Rates At An All-Time High

“We have reached a decisive moment for the nation,” Dr. Jonathan Mermin, director of CDC’s National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention, said in a statement. “STD rates are rising, and many of the country’s systems for preventing STDs have eroded. We must mobilize, rebuild and expand services – or the human and economic burden will continue to grow.”

According to some research, two of every five women have sexual concerns or difficulties at some point in their lives. Yet no one has been able to create the “female viagra.” The most recent attempt, a pill called Addyi hasn’t met expectations. Still, big pharmaceuticals and startups are trying to tap into the female sexual health market.

Nearly six in ten gay and bisexual men are unaware that pre-exposure prophylaxis treatment, also known as PrEP, significantly reduces the risk of HIV infection, according to a new study from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins.
